About the Editor: Rachel Holloway
Hello! If you’ve reached this page, then you’re wanting to learn more about me. Thank you for making it this far, and I hope my story resonates with you. To start things off simply: my name is Rachel Holloway. I was born and raised in Atlanta, GA, but currently reside in south Missouri. My love of books started from an early age, and it was around that time that I knew I wanted to become a writer.
The art of storytelling has always fascinated me—the way plots weave together, how worlds are built in a single person’s mind, the way words become more than just ink on a page, etc. It wasn’t until college where I realized my true dream was in editing, specifically developmental editing. Even in high school, I was the person people went to for advice on stories and papers. I loved, and still love, helping people find joy in their writing and bringing it to its fullest potential.
Going after a Bachelor of Arts in English was an obvious choice for me, and my favorite part of my degree was my minor in Professional Writing. This minor is what allowed me to take courses in creative writing classes, so I got hands-on experience working with other writers and got in-depth coursework on the art of fiction. Storytelling is like a puzzle, and there’s nothing I love more than solving puzzles and mysteries.
I graduated from Kennesaw State University in 2022 and focused on gaining knowledge through free webinars and smaller courses with the hopes of starting my own editing business. It wasn’t until 2025 that I came across a course dedicated to Developmental Editing. By taking that course, I knew I was making the first real step in solidifying my future as a Developmental Editor.
Editorial Arts Academy’s Developmental Editing course is taught by Pat Dobie, and I couldn’t recommend the experience enough if you’re an editor or aspiring editor wanting to learn more about developmental editing. Pat’s instruction was thorough and explained things in a way that was truly enlightening. We worked on a full 88k word manuscript step-by-step, and the pieces of the puzzle started falling into place in my head.
Deciding to freelance was a difficult decision, but I believe it’s my calling to help authors. I’m focusing solely on the developmental edit and manuscript evaluation—the BIG picture edits. Because I read a wide variety of material in the Fantasy and Romance genres, I believe I’m well-versed in being able to assist authors of cozy material, darker material, and almost anything in between. I’m also not afraid to sprinkle in a bit of Sci-Fi and Mystery.
My goal in editing is to build strong relationships with the authors I work with. Many books turn into a series, and I want to be someone that an author comes back to again and again. Not only because they know my feedback is sound, but because I also help authors build their own writing abilities along the way. I wholeheartedly believe that writing is an art that can be learned, which is why I always try to keep my editing tone just as supportive as it is analytical. Through the journey to be published, an author will find themselves with many cheerleaders. I hope you’ll let me be one of yours.
